The Heart of the Spreader: Agricultural Gearboxes

Most modern twin-disc spreaders (like the Vicon RO or Bogballe M-series) use a central T-Box. This gearbox takes the single input from the PTO and splits it into two counter-rotating outputs to drive the left and right discs.

Wipe the zerk clean with a rag, pump in new grease until you see clean grease purging out the seals (flushing out contaminants), and wipe away the excess.

This is the #1 problem. Before storing the spreader, pull the PTO shaft apart completely. Clean the inner and outer profile tubes thoroughly to remove all old grease and fertilizer residue. Coat them generously with fresh grease and reassemble. Store the shaft in a dry place, not hanging on the machine outdoors.
