“I was called to a farm where they couldn’t attach the PTO shaft to the tractor. The telescoping tubes were rusted solid. The shaft had been left hanging on the mixer, exposed to pit fumes for 6 months.

This is a classic problem. Standard triangular tubes have a large surface area for rust to bond. We replaced the shaft with our ‘Lemon’ Profile Shaft with Rilsan Coating. The Rilsan (nylon) coating on the inner tube is impervious to ammonia and provides a low-friction slide. Even if the outer tube gets dirty, the plastic-on-steel interface prevents the ‘rust-weld’ effect.

My scraper winch breaks shear bolts often. Why?

This usually happens when the scraper hits a frozen patch or a heavy accumulation of manure. If you are using standard bolts, they might be too weak. We recommend Calibrated Shear Bolts specifically for winches. However, never use a bolt stronger than recommended, or you risk stripping the worm gear.

Do you have stainless steel shafts?

Full stainless shafts are very expensive and often weaker than carbon steel. Instead, we offer KTL-Coated Steel Shafts with Stainless Steel grease fittings and shear bolts. This offers 90% of the corrosion resistance at 30% of the cost, which is the industry standard for manure equipment.

Can I use a friction clutch on a vacuum tanker?

Yes, and it’s a good idea. Vacuum pumps have high startup inertia. A friction clutch allows for a “soft start,” reducing wear on the vanes and the tractor PTO brake. It also protects the pump if liquid is accidentally drawn into the vacuum chamber (hydraulic lock).
