Why do drive shaft cross bearings fail prematurely on crawler cranes?

The most common cause is “Brinelling” from static vibration. When a crane idles for hours with the engine running, the vibration hammers the needle rollers into the race in one spot. Also, inadequate lubrication purging leaves water/grit inside. We recommend our heavy-duty, high-load bearing kits and strict greasing intervals.

Can you replace a Spicer or GWB shaft on my Liebherr crane?

Yes. We have extensive cross-reference data for major OEM shafts. We can match the flange interface (DIN/KV), torque rating, and compressed length exactly. Our replacements often feature upgraded sealing systems better suited for the wet Dutch climate.

What grease should I use for crane drive shafts in wet conditions?

Never use standard chassis grease. For Dutch construction sites, we highly recommend a Litiumkomplex EP2 grease with 3-5% Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2). The “Moly” provides a solid lubricant barrier that protects the metal even if water washes the oil away during heavy rain.

Do your shafts come with safety guarding?

Yes. Safety is paramount. We can supply shafts with full yellow polyurethane or steel safety guards that meet CE and OSHA standards. This protects operators from entanglement and protects the shaft from falling debris.
