Case Study: The Walnut Project in Zeeland
Provocarea: A progressive fruit grower in Zeeland was expanding into walnut production. They imported a specialized trunk shaker but found that the stock PTO shaft was shearing bolts every 4 hours of operation. The soil in Zeeland is heavy clay, and the torque required to grip and shake the mature trees was higher than the machine manufacturer anticipated.

While the PTO shaft transmits the power, the **Agricultural Gearbox** is what turns that rotational energy into the specialized motion required for harvesting. In tree shakers, the gearbox is subjected to immense radial loads and internal heat generation.

If your operating angle exceeds 25 degrees while the PTO is running, absolutely yes. Standard U-joints will vibrate violently and fail quickly above this angle. A Constant Velocity (Wide Angle) shaft can handle up to 80 degrees for short periods (like turning) and runs smoothly at higher continuous angles.
The most important measurement is the “Overall Compressed Length” (pin-to-pin). Measure from the locking groove on the tractor side to the locking groove on the implement side when the machine is in its closest position to the tractor.
