“I was onsite inspecting a catastrophic failure of a fuel feed auger. The client had used a rigid flange coupling to connect the 15kW motor to the gearbox. When a bolt (accidentally dropped in the wood chips) jammed the auger, the lack of flexibility caused the gearbox input shaft to shear off completely. Repair time: 3 weeks. Cost: Immense.

2. Vibration Isolation

Electric motors run smoothly; screw augers do not. The pulsing resistance of the screw creates harmonic vibrations. Our shafts use “Lemon” Profile Tubes with a specialized nylon coating to dampen these vibrations, preventing them from transferring back to the electric motor bearings. This extends the life of your expensive variable frequency drive (VFD) controlled motors.

The Torque Multiplier: Industrial Gearboxes for Heating Systems

My auger shaft breaks shear bolts every start-up. What is wrong?

This is a common issue called “Start-Up Inertia.” If the auger is full of heavy chips, the motor torque spike at start-up snaps the bolt. You don’t need a stronger bolt (that risks the gearbox); you need a “Soft Start” motor controller or a PTO shaft with a Embrayage à friction instead of a shear bolt. A friction clutch can slip momentarily to get the load moving.

Do you have adapters to fit an electric motor shaft?

Yes. Electric motors usually have a cylindrical shaft with a keyway (e.g., 28mm, 38mm). Agricultural PTOs use splines (e.g., 1 3/8″ Z6).
