“I was called out to inspect a recurring failure. The contractor was using a 250HP tractor to drive a large tub kneader. They were snapping the tractor-side yoke ears every 50 hours of operation.
The cause? Start-Up Inertia. The kneader rotor acts like a massive flywheel. When they engaged the PTO, the sudden torque spike was exceeding 3500 Nm. The standard shear bolt they were using was actually too strong (Grade 10.9), so the shock was transferred directly to the cast iron yoke, causing fatigue fractures.

This is usually due to “starting under load.” If the mixer is full of wet, settled silage, the startup torque is immense. Standard triangular tubes can twist. You need a Star Profile ou Splined Shaft, which has much higher torsional rigidity. Also, ensure your clutch is set correctly.
We advise against it for main drives. Pellet presses have variable loads. A shear bolt will fatigue and snap unpredictably, causing nuisance downtime. A Embrayage à friction is superior as it can absorb momentary spikes without stopping the machine.
Yes. Most modern processing equipment runs at 1000 RPM to reduce torque on the driveline. Our shafts are balanced for this speed. Ensure your tractor is set to 1000 PTO; running a 1000 RPM machine at 540 RPM can overload the shaft due to increased torque requirement.
