“I received a panicked call during a wet harvest in October. The main fan drive on their continuous dryer had seized. The bearing caps on the PTO cross kit were blue from heat.
The culprit? They were using a standard agricultural PTO shaft rated for intermittent use. The continuous 24-hour load, combined with the 60°C ambient temperature near the burner, had caused the standard lithium grease to separate. The oil ran out, leaving a waxy residue that provided no lubrication.

Drying equipment presents two distinct challenges: High Speed (Fans) and High Torque (Augers).
1. The Fan Drive (Speed & Balance)
Centrifugal fans run at high RPM (1500-3000). A tiny imbalance in the PTO shaft becomes a destructive force at these speeds. We use Precision Cold-Drawn Tubing and dynamic balancing to ISO 1940 G6.3 standards. This eliminates the “hum” that cracks fan housings and destroys motor bearings.
2. The Auger Drive (Torque & Heat)

Disconnect the shaft and run the motor. If it’s smooth, connect the shaft but not the fan. If it vibrates, it’s the shaft. Standard agricultural shafts are not balanced for fan speeds (1500+ RPM). You need a Precision Balanced G6.3 shaft to protect your fan bearings.
We generally advise against it. Friction clutches generate heat when they slip. In a dusty grain store, this is a potential fire hazard. We recommend Qirqim bolti limiters for indoor grain handling. They are cold-breaking and provide a positive stop.
