“I was onsite inspecting a catastrophic failure of a fuel feed auger. The client had used a rigid flange coupling to connect the 15kW motor to the gearbox. When a bolt (accidentally dropped in the wood chips) jammed the auger, the lack of flexibility caused the gearbox input shaft to shear off completely. Repair time: 3 weeks. Cost: Immense.<\/p>\n

The universal joints in the PTO shaft allow for slight misalignment (saving the bearings), but critically, the shear bolt acts as a mechanical fuse.<\/p>\n

The shear bolt snapped (cost: \u20ac2.50), the system stopped safely, and the maintenance team cleared the blockage and replaced the bolt in 10 minutes. The gearbox remained untouched. Unlike friction clutches, which can slip unnoticed and generate heat (a fire risk in a wood chip room!), a shear bolt provides a positive disconnect. You know immediately that there is a problem, and the drive is physically separated.<\/p>\n

2. Vibration Isolation<\/h3>\n

Electric motors run smoothly; screw augers do not. The pulsing resistance of the screw creates harmonic vibrations. Our shafts use “Lemon” Profile Tubes<\/strong> with a specialized nylon coating to dampen these vibrations, preventing them from transferring back to the electric motor bearings. This extends the life of your expensive variable frequency drive (VFD) controlled motors.<\/p>\n

A boiler room is a technical workspace, often visited by inspectors and maintenance staff. Under the Dutch Arbeidsomstandighedenwet<\/em>, exposed rotating shafts are strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n

Standard PTO guards rotate with the shaft (unless held by a chain). In a clean facility environment, this is often considered insufficient. We offer Fully Enclosed Stationary Guarding<\/strong>.
