Surviving the “Slurry Attack”

In a typical Dutch batching plant (Betoncentrale), dust is everywhere. It’s fine, abrasive, and hygroscopic. When it mixes with the grease on a standard drive shaft, it forms a grinding paste that eats steel.

“I recall a readymix plant in Eindhoven. They were replacing the main mixer drive shafts every 6 months. The problem wasn’t torque; it was the seals. The cement dust had worn a groove in the yoke, allowing water ingress. We retrofitted them with our Shielded Seal Design. We added a metal slinger shield over the seal lip.   • Labyrinth Sealing: We use a proprietary triple-lip seal with an external metal shield. This creates a tortuous path that cement slurry cannot navigate.
  • Hardened Splines: The sliding spline is the weak point in a mobile mixer due to chassis flex. We use Nitrided 42CrMo4 Splines (60 HRC) to prevent galling and fretting corrosion.
  • Vibration Dampening: Our shafts are designed with thicker tube walls to dampen the low-frequency vibrations typical of hydraulic drives.

In the concrete business, mixer trucks are often customized. A standard catalog shaft might be 10mm too long or have the wrong bolt pattern for a replaced hydraulic pump. We solve this.

We can cut, weld, balance, and paint a custom shaft to your exact compressed length and ship it to any site in the Netherlands. The Power Core: Planetary Mixer Gearboxes

The drive shaft delivers the power, but the Planetary Gearbox turns the drum. This is arguably the most stressed component on the truck. At EVER-POWER, we manufacture replacement gearboxes that rival the big names in durability but win on availability.

1. Drum Drive Gearboxes (Truck Mixers)

Our replacement gearboxes are designed to match the mounting footprint of ZF or Bonfiglioli units commonly found in the Netherlands.

  • High Reduction Ratio: Converting high-speed hydraulic motor input to the slow, high-torque rotation needed for mixing.
  • Floating Output Bearing: Allows the drum to oscillate slightly without damaging the internal gears—crucial for rough terrain sites.
  • Integrated Water Pump Drive: PTO options available to run the washdown pump directly from the gearbox.

2. Pan Mixer Gearboxes (Batching Plants)

Why do my mixer drive shafts keep failing at the spline?

This is usually due to a lack of lubrication or seal failure. When cement dust enters the spline, it acts like a grinding compound. Also, if the truck chassis flexes excessively, it puts a high axial load on the spline. We recommend our hardened, Rilsan-coated splines with triple-lip seals.

Can you replace a ZF or Eaton shaft on my Liebherr mixer?

Yes. We have cross-reference data for most OEM shafts used by Liebherr, Stetter, and others. We just need the flange-to-flange compressed length and the flange bolt pattern to build a direct replacement.

What is the best grease for concrete mixer shafts?

We recommend a heavy-duty Lithium Complex grease with Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) and Graphite additives. The solid lubricants (Moly/Graphite) provide protection even if the oil base is squeezed out under extreme shock loads.

Do you sell the hydraulic pump flange adapters?

Yes. Often, when replacing a hydraulic pump, the shaft flange doesn’t match. We manufacture precision adapter plates (DIN to SAE, etc.) to allow you to connect our standard shafts to any hydraulic motor configuration.

How do I prevent the universal joints from seizing in a wet environment?

Regular greasing is key—you must purge the old grease until new grease comes out of all four cups. For extreme wet conditions, we offer “Marine Spec” cross kits with improved seals originally designed for offshore use.
