If your seeder or dibbler uses a pneumatic fan to create a vacuum or pressure, then YES. The fan acts like a flywheel and has a lot of inertia. Without a freewheel clutch, that momentum drives back into the tractor transmission, which can damage the tractor’s PTO brake or clutch bands.

How often should I grease the PTO shaft during planting?
