In the Netherlands, the pressure on arable and vegetable farmers is unprecedented. I have spent 18 years in agricultural engineering, witnessing the shift from broad-acre spreading to precision side-dressing. But this shift brings a mechanical challenge: corrosion. The PTO shaft driving the metering unit of your fertilizer hopper sits right in the “dust zone.” It is constantly bombarded by corrosive granules of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (KAS) or Urea. “I vividly recall a case in the sandy soils of North Limburg. A grower was using a 4-row transplanter with a mechanical fertilizer drive. He was getting ‘striping’ in his leek crop\u2014yellowing leaves in random rows. He blamed the metering flutes.<\/p>\n

We took the PTO shaft apart (with a hammer, because it was rusted solid). The telescoping tubes had seized due to fertilizer ingress, transmitting axial vibration into the gearbox. This vibration was shaking the metering gates, causing inconsistent flow. We replaced it with our Series 2 Shaft with Rilsan-coated tubes and sealed cross kits<\/strong>. The vibration stopped, the dosing stabilized, and the crop uniformity returned. The cost of the shaft was less than the value of the lost fertilizer in one week.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
